What is Caring Crowns?
Caring Crowns, Inc. is a volunteer nonprofit organization comprised of pageant titleholders of all ages who want to use their titles to volunteer and give back to their communities. Caring Crowns organizes at least one volunteer event per month, and their events benefit a different cause or organization each month. This way, Caring Crowns exposes members to various causes that need their help, in the hopes that they will find one that touches their heart, and continue volunteering with that cause in the future.
A few organizations/events Caring Crowns has volunteered with in the past include the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, the March of Dimes' WalkAmerica, Special Olympics of Georgia, Camp Caglewood, a supply drive for the U.S. soldiers stationed in Iraq, Prevent Child Abuse Gainesville, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and many more.
Anyone is welcome to volunteer with Caring Crowns! You do not have to be a titleholder - we welcome anyone who is willing to give their time and effort to these worthy causes. In addition, we are in the process of forming Caring Crowns chapters in half a dozen additional states, and hope to eventually take the organization nationwide!
Where will my donations go, and what will they be used for?
Caring Crowns, Inc. has a designated nonprofit checking account at the bank. All donations are deposited into this account until such time as they are needed for Caring Crowns projects.
Since Caring Crowns is a nonprofit organization, and is made up mostly of students, the organization has no income and relies solely on donations. Otherwise, events unfortunately have to come out of the members' pockets. For example, a couple years ago, we held a supply drive for the U.S. soldiers stationed in Iraq. Since we were a relatively new organization and had no donations at the time, Caring Crowns members had to purchase items out of their own pockets to donate to the soldiers. This is one example of how your donations could be used to help the community.
Another example is Relay for Life. Relay for Life requires a $100 donation just to start a team. This is in addition to the $10 it requires from each team member, as well as any money they raise. Caring Crowns used its last $100 to start a Relay team for May 2009. Now that our account is empty, we need donations, or we will not be able to participate in Relay 2010. This will be our third year at Relay (we have had a team every year since Caring Crowns was founded in January of 2007), and we really want to be able to attend again next year!
Other items your donations could be used for are things such as supplies - Relay, etc., require signs, decorations, and other things of that sort that Caring Crowns member have also previously had to purchase out-of-pocket.
These are just a couple of the many examples of ways your donations could help Caring Crowns to give back to the community! Sign up for the Miss Ignite Pageant today, and help us in our goal to give back!
